Toledo, Ohio personal injury attorneys post new video on web

Because our office believes knowledge is power, attorneys Chuck Boyk, Mike Bruno, and Dale Emch have posted videos to give practical advice to people who may be searching for answers on the web. The attorneys in our office have ventured deeper into cyberspace by posting the video clips on our firm's website to provide information about a variety of personal injury topics, including car accidents, workers' compensation, and dog bites.

In addition to being viewable on our website, the clips can also be seen on the video websites YouTube, Google video, and Yahoo video.

"I think it's important to provide information through all different types of media," said Attorney Mike Bruno. "My generation and my parents' generation are used to viewing everything in print.

"Our video, which is closer to a television-type broadcast, is helpful to those who better process information visually. It's important that people actually see the attorney talking."

Some of the topics include what to look for in an attorney, whether to speak with the other driver's insurance company, the pitfalls of signing medical authorizations, and the benefits of purchasing uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.

The attorneys have added this whole new dimension of video to give people information that's easy to digest. Videos don't require readers to wade through a lot of text to find the help they need. The information is instantly available to anyone around the world, with a click of the play button.

The videos are a great addition to the articles and library we currently have on our site. We hope sending the clips out into cyberspace will aid anyone seeking information on the personal injury or workers' compensation process.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Anneke Kurt

Serious personal injury, wrongful death blamed on pit bull attacks

Pit bull attacks and the resulting dog bites almost always cause open wounds and scarring, many times to the faces of young kids. Pit bulls have a tendency to not show any signs of aggression before they attack. Their hair does not stand on end, nor to they growl or bark prior to biting someone. The adrenaline in a pit bull does not stop during an attack. This means that a pit bull will continue to maul, even if the dog was previously familiar with the victim. Dr. Finocchio believes that although pit bulls may not always bite more frequently than other breeds, it is the viciousness of the bite that inflicts so much damage. When pit bulls bite, the power comes from their back legs, and the dog will violently shake a victim, ripping and tearing the body, unlike other breeds such as a Doberman or German shepherds, according to Dr. Finocchio.

Recent news reports of dog attacks involving pit bulls have brought media attention to a problem that many believe has been going on for years.

In our Toledo, Ohio dog bite attorney's office, we've seen the devastating personal injuries that pit bull dog bites can cause. Our Toledo, Ohio dog bite attorneys are representing a toddler who a pit bull attacked, leaving a large scar down the middle of her forehead. Another client had a chunk of his muscle ripped from his arm after a pit bull attacked him. In both cases, the pit bull attacks resulting in dog bites were unprovoked.

Dr. Finocchio of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals believes that pit bulls are genetically predisposed to being aggressive, since they were originally bred to be fighting dogs as far back as the Roman Empire. Violent behavior is thought to be ingrained in pit bulls, resulting in dog bites. The results of this behavior are attacks on humans - especially helpless children.

To avoid dog bites, never touch a dog that is eating or sleeping. Call to the dog from a distance to get their attention, then have the dog come to you. Never tease or taunt an animal, and keep young children away from new dogs until it has a chance to become familiar with the child.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Anneke Kurt

Toledo boy suffers personal injury from dog bites

Six-year-old Rashad Mathis suffered serious personal injury earlier this month after he was mulled by a rottweiller near his home, according to the Toledo Blade. The boy had dog bites to his face, mouth and ear as well as personal injuries to his arms and legs.
Risk of personal injury from dog bite too high for landlord to allow pit bulls on property

Toledo, Ohio dog bite attorney Dale Emch discussed the liability of landlords who allow tenants to have dogs on their property. He sees many cases, especially those involving pit bull attacks, which result in personal injury and permanent scarring.

While Dale found that in most situations an Ohio landlord would not be liable for personal injuries caused by a tenant's dog, he questioned why a landlord would take the chance. It's likely that the landlord would be sued in order to protect the rights of the injured person, because sometimes it is impossible to tell what liability the landlord would have until the case progresses.
Kids left home alone with loaded gun and pit bulls

Toledo police officers discovered five children home alone with pit bulls and a loaded rifle, resulting in a child endangerment charge for the mother, according to the Toledo Blade.

Alison Gilmore allegedly left the children unattended in the house the family shared with the dogs, and it was apparent that pit bull fighting had occurred on the premises. A picture window overlooked a makeshift pit in the living room, where there was dried blood, dog fighting collars and chains. Police found nine pit bulls in and around the house and garage, with one locked in a bedroom, according to WTOL Channel 11 News. The dogs had scars showing signs of fighting.

Police were warned by the children that the dog locked in the bedroom, "bites really bad." The kids ranged in age from 2 months to 9 years and have all been taken into the custody of Children Services. One child, whom Ms. Gilmore was baby-sitting, was allowed to go back to his mother.

Not only is dog fighting illegal in the state of Ohio, but it also teaches dogs to be vicious towards everything around them, including humans. According to Toledo Police Officer Barb Jackson, as reported by WTOL, "Pit bulls are basically loaded weapons."

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Chuck Boyk

Pit Bulls Bite Workers at Ohio Shelter

Dozens of pit bulls that were seized in dog fighting investigations have bitten animal shelter workers and behaved so bad in general that visitors are warned to stay away from their cages.

Most of the 72 pit bulls bark furiously at visitors, propelling their bodies against the cage bars and grabbing a hold of the coats of passers-by, said Mark Kumpf, director at the Montgomery County Animal Control Center.

Starting back in July, the dogs were confiscated in police raids. The dogs have bee housed by the county at a cost to the taxpayers of approximately $60,000 as the cases make their way through the courts.

Many workers at the animal center have been bitten, mostly breaking up fights between dogs when they are removed from the cage for exercise or cleaning.

Some of the dogs are shredding the hard plastic flooring in their cages, drain covers and tearing water bowls off the wall. Barriers have been attached to many cages so the dog inside won't be driven to frenzy over the sight of another dog close by.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Christina Cole
