Bird Flu in Virginia is Not Spreading

Laboratory tests have confirmed that the turkey's at the farm in Virginia did have the strain of low-risk bird flu, but the evidence revealed that the flu is not spreading, stated the U.S. Agriculture Department's chief veterinarian.

The turkeys, who contracted the H5N1 virus, were not a risk to humans. As a precautionary measure, all 54,000 turkeys that were located in the Virginia farm were killed.

The surrounding area is still being watched over to make sure that there is no spread of the virus, but so far all tests have been negative.

The farm owner was compensated for the lost birds.

The state of Virginia has a ban on all poultry sales and shows through the end of July.
