Vermilion police suspect an angry motorist might be the cause of a fatal car accident that occurred on Sunday night in Vermilion on Ohio 2.

The Vermilion Prosecutors' office said charges may be filed as early as today against a New London man, 19, who may have been chasing a Chevy Camaro driven by Christopher Pauley, 19, after Pauley allegedly cut him off in traffic earlier that evening.

The charges may include aggravated vehicular manslaughter, a felony that is punishable by up to eight years in prison, according to the prosecutors' office.

Allegedly, Pauley was weaving in and out of traffic on Ohio 2 that night, cutting off many vehicles according to witnesses. Some witnesses reportedly saw Pauley and the New London man's vehicle dodging through traffic at high speeds. One witness said the two men were going 100mph or more.

Pauley was pronounced dead on the scene after his car drove over the highway median and vaulted into air and into a tractor-trailer.

Police say the New London man and the two other passengers he was riding with told them he was driving next to Pauley when Pauley's vehicle lost control.

The man reportedly told police he fled the scene in fear after he saw Pauley's car explode.

Detectives working on the case met with a state highway patrol crash investigator Thursday night to review the evidence and determine if charges should be issued.

Budway said he the New London man may have incriminated himself when police tracked him down and interviewed him after the incident.
